Marvelous Moms Registration

Hartwell First United Methodist needs 120-150 volunteers for a special

“One Day with God” Camp to provide women from the

Whitworth Women’s Facility an opportunity to reach, reconcile and restore relationships in the lives of those impacted by crime.

This will be the first time for many of the children of the inmates to be allowed past the visitation room to see where their mother lives.

This day will help calm their fears and anxiety about where their mother lives!

Overall, we want to help decrease the prison population through the love and witness of Jesus Christ.

Please help us to serve Christ this day through serving others!

All Volunteers need to be committed to the day of Saturday, May 5th.

The following is needed to participate as a volunteer on this fantastic day:

  • A background check which will be done by Whitworth Facility on all volunteers (Please see application for more info).
  • Fill out a set of applications to volunteer at this event by visiting the church office or contacting Molly Boyd at the Church Office (or by email at hfumc@hartcom.net) who will email you the applications.

LENT – time for self reflection and rededication…

Ash Wednesday marks the onset of the Lent, the 40-day period (excluding Sundays) of fasting and abstinence. It is called Ash Wednesday because at the church the faithful have their foreheads marked with ashes in the shape of a cross. The concept originated by the Roman Catholics somewhere in the 6th century. In the Old Testament, ashes were found to have been used for two purposes: as a sign of humility and mortality; and as a sign of sorrow and repentance for sin. Originally the use of ashes was a matter of private devotion. Later it became part of the official rite for reconciling public penitents. Putting a ‘cross’ mark on the forehead was in imitation of the spiritual mark or seal that is put on a Christian in baptism. This is when the newly born Christian is delivered from slavery to sin and the devil, and made a slave of righteousness and Christ (Rom. 6:3-18).

In this season of Lent, let’s take-on rather than give-up. Some ideas are:

  • Apologize to someone
  • Forgive yourself
  • Perform random acts of kindness
  • Delve into a book of the Bible
  • Serve someone in need
  • Visit a lonely person
  • Show someone you love them
  • Donate weekly to Clothes Closet
  • Celebrate with someone
  • Say “Please”
  • Say “Thank You!”
  • Have a heart of gratitude
  • Offer a word of encouragement
  • Tell someone you prayed for them
  • Invite someone to church
  • Tithe a week / month salary
